Moving Picture

Deep and Shallow

The aperture of a lens determines how much light it allowed through. It also changes the depth of field. A wider opening creates a more shallow depth and a smaller opening creates a much deeper depth.

That’s what I played around with this time around.

This first one with a shallow depth, I took at the Sugar City Cemetery.

This next one I took At my home. We’re watching a neighbors bird while they’re out of town.

My last shallow depth image was taken at my home. I collect old film gear, so I took my favorite projector and set it up on my kitchen counter with a black board behind it.

Moving onto deep depth, I set out driving around Rexburg and got the following shot.

I'm Not Invited

Then I messed up and stopped paying attention and the rest of these were shot with a f/5.6 aperture. . .The same aperture of my shallow depth shots.  They may not be as deep as they could be, but they still look pretty good. Anyway, here they are.

  1. Tim I really like your titles. They make me laugh. You have a really fun variety of images. You are also a brave soul to be outside for that many of them. Your lighting is really good and I especially like the contrast of the blue in the sky to the bright yellow sign. Great job on this project.

  2. Tim, what a great job this week. I really like your “Moving Picture” photo. The foreground is perfeclty sharp and the background is nicely blurry. It was really clear in all of your photos if you were going for a shallow or deep depth of field. I also like “the Off-season”. It makes Rexburg look like Antartica!
